I have been to Barbounia before and went there again for my birthday. Unfortunately I never recieved my food...on my birthday.
Went for a work lunch. Good spot. Good food and friendly, professional staff.
Food, drink, service was all outstanding. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in NYC
Poor tasting food, no flavor, chicken tasted old, overpriced
Chic New York City style restaurant. Everything ordered satisfied our expectations. Portions are a bit small for the price but again, its Park Ave.
I ordered salmon skewers, food was great but portion was small with an expensive price tag.
We had a great time. This is a fun place with an interesting menu and delicious food. The noise level is high, so probably not the best choice for a large group with older folks - music can be loud, difficult to have a conversation.
Barbounia was poised to be an awesome big birthday celebration for my husband. We were in town from Chicago, and had a small brunch planned to celebrate. My husband is a BIG fan of Mediterranean food and was really excited that we found this place. We got there and everyone was very nice. We sat down, waited for our other guests and once everyone arrived someone came to offer us beverages. The first person who tended to us was never to be seen again, and from here the experience disintegrated.
To be clear, the food at this restaurant was delightful and without a doubt we would have gone back to eat whenever we come to NY. But the service was so atrocious that we could never support this establishment. It was Labor Day weekend and all of Manhattan was quiet- this is the quietest weekend in the city. The restaurant was no more than half full at any point in time while we were there. Nonetheless, someone from our group had to seek out service 4 times during out meal. While workers were standing around talking to each other, we were waiting for our plates to be cleared, food to come, offers for more coffee or dessert. We finally said something to a manager and received a feeble apology.
Even worse, I mentioned early on that we had a big birthday happening. At one point during our visit, music came on the sound system and played a fun, lively happy birthday song - we thought it might be for my husband who was on the phone. He quickly hung up, and it turned out this wasn't actually for him but for another celebration. We proceeded to wait 20 minutes for someone to offer dessert, and we finally ordered something that came with a couple of candles AFTER we had spoken with the manager about our experience. Two hours and 15 minutes later we left feeling disappointed -- worst customer experience at a nicer restaurant ever.
We had a reservation for 4. Two were seniors that arrived 10 minutes early for a 6:30 PM reservation. Although the restaurant was empty the hostess did not offer them the option of sitting at the table to wait for us. Instead she made them stand while waiting for us to arrive. We eat at Barbounia frequently. It was a holiday weekend and this hostess was probably not part of the A-Team. Never-the-less this has never happened to us before. Hopefully it will never happen to us or to anyone else again.
Service was excellent! Food came quickly and hot, very nice menu
We ate outside with our dog and the food and service was amazing
they need to look at their ceiling and clean the strings of dust...just saying. Food and service was very good.
Fabulous food, outstanding service, great ambiance.
The Restaurant Week experience was good. The place has a perfect ambiance and fine menu. The first course, a set of appetizers, was wonderful, very tasty. The entree lacked as the meat was dried out and the tahini had color without taste. I'd recommend Barbounia as a place to have a very nice drink, listen to appropriate music, and perhaps get a bite.
Amazing birthday dinner- fantastic service!
I have wanted to eat at Barbounia for a very long time. I finally had an opportunity to go for lunch during Restaurant Week. I could kick myself for waiting so long! The Israeli salad and mezze were amazing; hummus, spicy feta and eggplant. Bread baked with Mediterranean spices that was a perfect partner to the mezze. For our mains, we had salmon and kofte kebab. Absolutely delicious. I WILL RETURN!
Far too noisy
Food and ambiance was incredible, waitress was rude and short with us
This restaurant is a jewel. The salmon was very moist and tender as was the lamb.
This visit was made during Restaurant Week when it is good to try new places and foods. My guest was so very impressed with the meal, and asked if I had eaten at Barbounia before. I had not, however, it is definitely a place worth dining at again.
Love this place. Love the staff! Literally everyone is so kind. I am from out of town, and this is where I always go when traveling to the city.
Great flavors and food knowledgeable server who gladly answered all of our questions.
Absolutely terrific for drinks and whatever kind of dinner you are in the mood for.
Delicious bottles of cold rose served with hot and cold small plates of beautifully served delicious dishes. Perfect for vegetarians and /or omnivores. (Need is to request refills for bread given the volume of dishes ordered) Crowded/busy but never rushed. Very nice wait staff.
Octopus was under cooked or not good and got horrible stomach ach immediately after i left
Excellent. Food, service, atmosphere admirable. Somewhat noisy.
I went with a group of 4 people, our reservation was for 7:45pm; we were seated at 8:20pm. Very unhappy with the way the delay & wait was handle, probably not going back which is unfortunate as I have eaten there several times.
I would recommend the restaurant but with the caveat about my experience.
Food was great. Service excellent.
Met there for business lunch during Restaurant week. Food was delicious and different, service good, ambiance very nice
Really nice restaurant with yummy food would recommend this place to friends visiting nyc
We ordered an appetizer that came after the main course.
My partner and I came here for a romantic dinner and it was so beautiful. I scheduled a reservation and came a bit early so we were attended to in perfect timing. We arrived around 8:30 and it was packed and loud, but that was perfectly fine because we were silently staring at each other enjoy how absolutely creative and AMAZING the food was. Granted it was our first time, but trust that anything on their menu could blow your mind. After a comfortable and indulgent meal we were impressed to find that we were in and out within 45 minutes. Service was very attentive, sweet, and enjoyable. There is every reason in the world to treat yourself to desert and gorgeous scenery. Thanks for a beautiful night!
Food was solid plus good vibe
Food was flavorful and the service was phenomenal.
The place itself and food was great. Not my first time. Server was great also. However the overall service was extremely slow. We spent over 3 hrs for entire dinner for 2 with only one entree for both. Another 30 minutes waited post our reservation time for a table. If that would be improved would deserve 4-5 stars.
Really great food, fun atmosphere and great service
The prices are a bit high, but IMO worth it.
The Short Rib especially was amazing as well as the desserts
Beautiful restaurant, great service and delicious food. Perfect for date night! A bit pricey but worth it for a special night out!
Wonderful and attentive! They were helpful with vegetarian options for me and even prepared a vegetarian entree off menu for me. Also great help with wine options..Will definitely go again.
We had brunch here on a Saturday. Our reservation was for noon and they seated us when 5 of the 6 people were there. The restaurant gets crowded and very noisy as the 1 PM hour approaches. Outdoor seating is available, but it was too hot. This is not a bottomless drink brunch unless you are drinking mimosas and at $22 for each person, skip the cheap champagne and order a good drink. The food is very good. Omelettes and eggs Benedict were popular with our group. We all wanted to try the Shakshouka, but it was so hot outside no one had the stomach for it. The potatoes that accompany the omelettes are delicious and flew off the plates of those who didn't eat them fast enough. I appreciate the green salad that came with the omelettes. I would try the restaurant again for dinner, but I have enjoyed far better brunches in the city. Service was ok. I appreciate that we were not rushed even though the restaurant was busy.
I asked for bread since this is middle eastern food, bread is usually served. When the bill come I was charged for the bread and no where on the restaurant week menu did it say there was a charge for bread .
I brought to the attention of the hostess who called the manager over and at that point I thought they would have charged back my card for the bread and they did not. Poor customer service and not a good way to get new patrons to their restaurant.
Second time I’ve been to this restaurant. The first time was okay; good enough to come back a few years later. Now they have a different chef and the feel of the restaurant changed a bit. Now it’s expensive for mediocre food and smaller portions. There are better Greek options in this City.
