I love the concept of Balthazar, a fun French brasserie with excellent food. Been to the NYC multiple times as well as the London site several times. My overall reaction to Balthazar London is very mixed.
Has the energy and vibe that I like in French bistros.
Food is fine. My escargot was fair at best (butter not garlicky enough) but my Dover sole was excellent.
Like the menu.
My biggest pet peeve of restaurants is they do not seat you on time when you are either prompt or early. Arrived 15 minutes early, so not that put off that needed to wait for a table. BUT then ended up being seated 10 minutes AFTER the reserved time. Total wait 25 minutes. Unforgivable. Shows management does not respect customers' time ... but then gets annoyed when customers no show or are late. Need to have reciprocity in respecting time.
Service was friendly but slow.
Very, very touristy place.
This latest episode is similar to my previous experiences at both the NYC and London branches. I only went because it is located next door to the Royal Opera House, so thought would give it another chance. Since was seated late and food service was slow, had a very rushed dinner.
Frankly, will not be going back the next time I visit the Opera.
Very rude waiter, forgotten to placed one of our order and by the time the kitchen is closed
Lovely meal for my wife’s birthday. Very subtle birthday surprise at the end. Great food great staff great place!
Excellent service , great food , Will recommend for friends and family
Fast service despite being busy with Christmas lunches
Lovely Christmas lunch with friends at Balthazar. Great service, great food, great wine.
Very noisy service poor but food ok not particularly good. Location very good and space between tables good! We were allowed to sit at our table early which pleased us. Gave 4 stars even though food was not special. Not value for money and service needs improving. Probably 3.5 is a more accurate rating!
Love this place - another memorable evening with great food, drinks, service and atmosphere..!!
THE BEST BREAKFAST AND BRUNCH IN LONDON
Very nice location, food is nothing special
very very loud, tables too close to each other, food very tasty, amazing wine
Have dined here on a number of occasions the staff are always very nice, polite & efficient.
The food is average & its nearly always very noisy so not always possible to have a conversation but its in a great central location.
Loved it. Been plenty of times, always a treat
Great restaurant lovely food and atmosphere. The waiter was great. If you are an ouster lover thats he place for you! Come here every time we are in London.
Everything was excellent, will go back.
One of my favourite restaurants in London. Balthazar serves amazing food and the perfect atmosphere for mid-shopping lunch! I love it
Very buzzy place great location friendly staff and good food
Used to enjoy Balthazar but based on my experience today, I think it’s easily trumped by more mainstream rivals. It’s lost it’s exclusive feel, tables are penned in next to each other like you’re in a Wagamamas on a Saturday.
Service was prompt until food was delivered and then nowhere to be seen. Had to go to the til and pay there as we were unable to get attention of waiting staff.
£85 for two mains, two bottles and a couple of sides. What a joke.
Fantastic- everyone was so nice to our toddler too!
Slow service, very loud, average food
Great ambience and food.
The Salmon Tartare was superb.
Very good. Highly recommend.
Birthday brunch which was amazing. Love love love Balthazar
Friendly, professional staff and the food arrived quickly
Hi, i ate filet de boeuf which was really mediocre to not good. For the price we paid, i do not recommend Balthazar anymore, the service was good, and everybody was friendly and smiling but unfortunately the food was not special for me. We paid 330 pounds 6 people, two bottles of wine included...
Was very disappointed with my dinner and the service. I had contacted the restaurant beforehand to tell them it was my husband’s birthday. I was told they would decorate the dessert order and took his name. We received nothing on our dessert plate and even had to send food back for poor taste. Don’t waste your money there are better restaurants around.
I'm happy we were able to find a Thanksgiving meal in London, but the food was lackluster and the service not great. It was a very busy night and they seemed stretched. The Thanksgiving meal resembled Sunday roast more than traditional American style food.
We didn’t like the afternoon tea sandwiches and some of the desserts
Sadly the service was very poor. Despite the restaurant calling the day before to confirm reservation and also confirming dietary requirements and that we needed to be fast in our service - we sat for 22 minutes without any service and weren’t given the right menus.
The table was also very cramped and we had a waiter stood next to our table once our food was served basically watching us eat - which was very uncomfortable.
The food though was delicious; but such a shame that the table and service was so poor which makes me not want to return; despite previously having great experiences here.
Had to wait 20 mins for the table we booked and the lady managing booking was very rude about it.
Waitress was lovely though
Average. Not as good as I expected
Fantastic venue, service was excellent as was the food
service was below average and too noisy for a business meeting
The staff couldn’t cope with how busy it was and the tables are too close together
It is always a pleasure to eat at Balthazar! The lobster spaghetti is a must have experience...
We were after theatre and Balthazar is always a reliable option... food was good , service polite and efficient so no complaints.. the wine list is fine if a little pricey but the house Corbiers surprisingly good!
It’s always an amazing experience to eat at Balthazar.
My duck confit was delicious.
I enjoyed it very much. All was well up to standard.
It was very, very nice.
