Service was not good - either our server was new or incompetent AND not wearing a mask!!!! Menu is different than what is posted online (including OpenTable), so be sure to ask if there is a specific dish you want. Food is ok, but nothing special with the exception of the gazpacho. Restaurant is in an old house that is pretty cool - both literally and figuratively. There were 2 air conditioner vents by our feet so we were freezing, but glad for the airflow during these CoVid times. Cannot recommend.
Poor quality of food for the price. Prime rib and steaks were overcooked. Menu was very limited and was not at all what was advertised online. Service was just ok. Waiter kept calling me and my husband "you guys." I noted in my reservation that it was our wedding anniversary and they did absolutely nothing. I would not return to this place.
Loved the Baker House! They accommodated our large group well! I would return! Loved the live music outside too.
This place is a step back in time! Of course, it is showing it’s age a bit. But, that’s part of the charm. Great location and diverse menu. Can’t go wrong with crab cakes!!
Kind of Pricey. The coolness factor of the vintage hotel / bar and location overlooking
the lake is worth it.
I hate to do this because this is one of my favorite places, and next time we're in Lake Geneva we might try it again. Have been here several times before, and it has always been amazing. I'm not sure if it is because of what's going on in there world right now or just having to adjust to the "New Normal". We went for dinner on Father's Day, and in our reservation we put that we needed a highchair. When we got there, the hostess said they only had one highchair and it was being used. Even though it is a smaller restaurant, I was really taken aback by the fact they they only had one. It turns out, they had two, but the hostess was unaware. We sat down and continued on with our dinner. We ordered a bottle of wine and one of the glasses was dirty, when the server came back to deliver our appetizer, we had to remind her about getting a new glass. We ordered an appetizer of a charcuterie plate, and my husband said all the meat was stale tasting and just looked old. We proceeded to order our dinner. My husband ordered Filet Medium which came out literally raw, and I ordered the Prime Rib Medium-Rare and it came out Medium to Medium-Well. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that our server didn't write anything down. Maybe they have different cooks since the pandemic. Who knows? Needless to say, we didn't say anything because we just didn't want to ruin our time. We didn't really eat both our meals, but we have a dog, so we thought we would take it home for her. We had to ask our server 3 times for to go box. Again with the the writing anything down. It was such a disappointment, and again I will reiterate that we usually love this place, but I couldn't let this one pass without sharing our experience.
we have been here before and we like the atmosphere and the food was great!
Great experience. Awesome romantic date night.
Was very disappointed with there lack of care to prevent the spread of Covid. No disinfecting, no masks, no distancing. Food was ok Atmosphere was outstanding
Barret was our server. She was absolutely amazing! I've been in the industry for over 30years and have never been more pleased with such a naturally hospital and accommodating server in my history.
I would steal her in a second.
Faboulos, great food, amazing service
Beautiful view and amazing aesthetic
Beautiful and Charming Restaurant located across the street from Lake Geneva. Our reservation was at 5:30 and they seemed like they just opened. We had to ask the waiter for everything. Water, silver ware- they don't serve bread. We ordered New York Steaks and then the waiter came back and said they were out of NY steaks. We ordere Prime Rib and it was excellent as were the potatoes and green beans.
The fiancé and I went out for our anniversary dinner and to get out of Illinois to have a great dinner.
Just such a refreshing change from corporate owned restaurants! Charming!! Definitely will go back and again and I highly recommend
I really think it's a great place to go once. The people are very nice but the menu is really limited and the drinks aren't that great. I really wish I could say that I love this place but I just like it. Its very pretty however.
The environment is so warm, relaxed and charming! Great place for an intimate dinner or a large group dinner!
Ambiance was fabulous, but the cost of the meal was very expensive and a bit overpriced.
Food sub par...
Ran out of an appetizer by 8pm.
Filet mignon had a weird taste hard to explain. Potatoes were hard, brussel sprouts mushy. Appetizer was smoked salmon stuffed mushrooms. I could of gone and bought better ones at the store.
Server was not so warm. Don't even know his name. It seemed like we were a hassle to even get a drink.
We had reservations showed up 7 mins early but still had to wait 30 mins.
Would not suggest going and waste of time.
Save your money and actually go to a nice high end restaurant in the area.
We went for Valentine’s Day dinner. To start, there was no parking available. We got there early and I was glad we did.. It took us about 15 min to find a spot and that only after stalking people to leave. The house is beautiful, there was a small wait for our table, about 15 min which wasn’t a big deal especially for Valentine’s Day weekend. The service was so slow. Not because he was a bad waiter, but it just seemed like there was so many tables he couldn’t keep up. We decided not to order from the bar because there was a huge back up. From start to finish we were there for almost 2 1/2 hours, it took about 20 min to get bread, 20 min for starter, almost 30 min for soup that was literally served in the smallest tea cup I’ve seen, but you can see the pattern. The food was ok but for $110 per couple, I had a little higher expectation. The entree was not hot but warm-ish and definitely not worth the money spent. Overall, I do not think we would return here. What we enjoyed most was the house and the history, but I could’ve saved a lot of money to just look around.
Very cool looking restaurant full of history. Cool for bachelorettes and couples. Good romantic atmosphere.
Yes it was Valentine’s Day. Yes it was busy. But that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. The server did not need keep reminding us how many tables he had.
My biggest problem with The Baker House is that this elegant and genteel space is more often than not staffed by employees that are decidedly NOT.
Great ambiance but entrée was barely warm when served.
Enjoyed a nice Valentine’s Day dinner in a cozy environment where it was quiet enough to have dinner conversation. Good food and service with a nice bar to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail. Would highly recommend!
What a beautiful, historic place. Food was delicious, one can peek around and admire all the unusual antiques and rooms, try on a hat or take in the atmosphere. Service was good but they seemed understaffed and a little rushed, and the wait was long for our meals but that was fine as it gave me more time to look around. It really is stunning.
Food was great but a bit pricey. Service was very slow.
Overall we loved Baker House. It was very charming with lots of history in the house itself. The food was excellent and the bartender was a great storyteller of the history. Would go back for sure.
The only disappointing part was the menu on open table was not up to date and half of the offerings were not available.
Wonderful atmosphere, great food (the prime rib was outstanding). A little pricey...but considering the location not terrible. Will definitely go there again.
$200 for 2 people with water for drinks... still left hungry. Such a great place... silly small portion sizes, only one piece of delicious bread per person... not allowed more... even if you pay! Lol - why wouldn’t you wanna sell bread if you own a restaurant? Management is new, they need to figure out a few things.
We arrived early so we could have a cocktail but the bar was full with no place to sit. We were able to get two drinks ordered and we were seated early so that helped. I ordered another cocktail from the table and it took at least ten minutes before it was served. I think the bar was overrun. Other than that everything was excellent. I had the seafood boil and my partner has the fish boil and it was the best we have ever had. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in town.
The menu on open table is not the same options offered at the restaurant. Do not plan your meal ahead of time - they don’t have it! Wish they had more options in the restaurant like a pasta dish.
I proposed to my fiance a year ago at Baker House and returned for our one year anniversary. The ambiance can't be beat and the food and service were amazing! They made our anniversary very special. I would highly recommend the Baker House for any occasion.
Excellent ambiance, pleasant staff and great tomato cream soup. While very sweet our server did not ask what temperature we wanted our steak at and The prime rib came out very, very well done. It’s not easy to enjoy overcooked steak, especially when it’s super chewy and hard. I’d recommend this restaurant more for the drinks than the food.
The place is beautiful with pleasant atmosphere. We used to come here every time we visit Lake Geneva. Usually the selection of food is rich. Besides egg bar they had soups, fish, wide selection of salads. We come here for New Year brunch and I was a disappointed with new food selection. For egg selection there was just scrambled eggs, for food only chicken with rice. I was hoping for punched eggs, crab cakes and fish that they used to have, but not this time. I wonder if that was just because of new year holiday or the place went through some changes.
There were 3 of us for dinner 12/26, 5pm. Perhaps a little early for the crowd. We got to put on many hats, hear all about the history of the Baker House. We all had the 6oz. Filet , and it was to "die" for, cut it with your fork tender. I had the mushroom soup, yum! The Brussel sprouts , oh my, so good. My eating companions had the salad with the house dressing, excellent. The desert was Lemon cake, double yummy and Chocolate mousse! Excellent. Not cheap, but well worth it. This place is amazing, just beautiful and nicely decorated for the Christmas season.
Celebrated a birthday with the Baker House brunch. It was fantastic. Food was wonderful and set up in different rooms. Everything we tried was great. Tables were pretty close together and we didn’t love that- a bit too crowded where we were sat. It’s a great place to go if you are looking for a special brunch.
Very different restaurant. If you like a little strange but fun atmosphere, great food and drinks, this is the place.
We arrived early & had a wonderful cocktail is the beautifully, decorated lounge. JC is a creative mixologist with such great energy. We had a party of 7 & had an entire room with a fireplace to ourselves. The fish boil, salmon & grilled chicken salad were all absolutely delicious! We shared two lemon cake desserts & they were also very tasty. We hope to return soon & would give 5 stars to our experience!!
It was our first time at Baker House. The ambiance is amazing! The history is so interesting. Which in fact the staff is very knowledgeable of. Our waiter was Greg. He is energetic, very attentive. He puts his heart and soul into his job and is very proud to be an important part of Baker House. He encouraged us to return for their Sunday brunch, which we are excited to try. Excellent food. And very reasonably priced. The hats added a special twist that put fun into our dining experience. Give Baker House a try. You’ll be glad you did. And you’ll have fun stories to tell your friends.
This was the first time we have attended the Sunday Brunch since the new owner has taken over. While the brunch was totally satisfactory, there are some changes that have occurred. Noticeable absent is the hot salmon plate was served in the front room. It was excellent and sorely missed. A positive change is the new location of the Omelet and Benedict bar to the front porch. There seems to be fewer salad offerings available as well. The greeting and server were excellent and thorough. We felt very welcome and will return. Hopefully the salad offerings will increase and the hot salmon dish will return.
