Girlfriends dinner was lovely at the Back Burner Tavern! Our server, Janet, was patient and shared her great sense of humor! Burger night was enjoyed by my friends but my crab cake entree was de-lish!

absolutely loved the atmosphere of back burner, as usual. have been there a number of times in the last 30 (???) or so years. from when it was in its former location. and the pumpkin mushroom soup? since my very first visit this has been a MUST have. still tastes just as good as ever. also, service and waitstaff excellent. cannot wait for my next visit! thanks so much for being there still (even tho one of my fav stores has closed down (everything but the kitchen sink) and still serving that excellent soup. oh, and the house salad? best ever !!!!!

Our waitress was courteous, and kind. Unfortunately the hostess who welcomed me made no effort to confirm if I had a reservation after I told her I did. Thank goodness my colleague was already seated under the reservation I made. Go figure. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Luckily the clam chowder made up for her poor customer service.

The description of the blackened salmon sounded good, but the salmon was a bit fishy and the polenta was terrible. What ever the flavor was supposed to be it was bland and very unappetizing. Corn "relish" didn't "go" with the salmon. Very disappointed.

This is a good place for a great meal but it does take some effort to find it. The setting is okay and the service was acceptable. The food was very good. I would recommend Back Burner to a friend.

We had an 11:30 reservation (first available due to open time). According to our waitress, she was the only server there, so the service was SLOW - as in it took 30 minutes to order beverages, another 30 to order lunch, it took 20 minutes to get ice, and another 30 for the check. Terrible service. Food was average, coffee was cold. Would not return.

i have been going to the back burner for years, my first and many consequent visits being in its former location a few doors away. not only that but i tried on my first visit, having heard about the soup early on, a cup of their pumpkin mushroom soup and was hooked. i also have had the house salad many many times: always exactly the same and always absolutely delicious. one of my all time fav local restaurants for lunch to this day. so thankful that so far this spot has survived the covid pandemic, am really happy to be able to support it by continuing to go there.

Our 25th Anniversary dinner was special and I knew right away my wife would feel the same way about the Back Burner! We both knew we wanted the Pumpkin Mushroom soup even before we got there. The drink menu had just the thing for my wife's "sweet" taste and I enjoyed a great beer from the tap. As always the service was great and the table comfortable. We finished with a dessert of Apple Bread pudding.

I forgot what a gem this place is! We usually hit the Greenville hotspots, as they’re closer. But we were reminded last night why this should be our go to place!

Back burner was one of my favorite restaurants, and I gave 3 stars overall bc of previous experience. Our last visit was very disappointing and was not the quality we had been used to at the establishment. Service was good, but the food was not. We started with the stuffed mushrooms, that were fair, very liquidy and too much cartilage. I then had the Cobb salad and my husband had the Short ribs. His dish was fine, nothing stood out, but my salad was not. I did not care for the dressing which was thankfully on the side per my request. I had to send back the first attempt as it was all over the salad. The description stated a medium rare blackened sirloin. It came out medium to medium well and there was hardly any seasoning on it. The shrimp were rubber. We then had the bread pudding, which was cold in the middle. I understand restaurants are struggling with staff right now, but they should at least put out good tasting food. The room itself was very bright, like a cafeteria, also not what we experienced in the past. Our drinks were delicious and the best part. I really hope this was a fluke and not the norm.

It has been about 4 years since we dined at The Back Burner. .After last night's experience, if we return once within the next 10 years, it will be one time too many!!. . With that last statement, you can deduce that our dining experience was an absolute disaster!!. .There were three parties of 4 (including us) in the restaurant. .The seating capacity is approximately 50, plus additional accommodations at the bar. . .Our waitress was an absolute delight. .The poor thing was partially a victim of an inept kitchen and her own inexperience in dealing with an impossible situation. .The "Manager" had the skills of a hammer thrusting itself onto a stone, resulting in nothing but broken pieces all over the place. .She possesses the subtlety of a car crashing into a house!!. . .After waiting too long for our drinks to arrive, we placed orders for 3 appetizers and 4 main courses. . .Approximately 30 minutes later, after we hailed down another employee and asked him to find our waitress, she reappeared, for the first time since taking our orders, apologizing profusely for the delay, blaming "The Kitchen". .The appetizers were (1) Beet Salad, (2) Caesar Salad, (3) Crab Stuffed Mushrooms. .After another 10 minutes, our appetizers arrived - 40 MINUTES from the time we ordered them!!. .As we were consuming our appetizers, two waiters show up with our main courses!!. .Talk about poor timing!!. .The main courses were (1) A Vegetarian eggplant Dish (2) Lemon Butter Shrimp and Pasta, (3) Steamed Clams, (4) Steak Frites. .Rather than risking returning them to the kitchen and never seeing them for the rest of our lives, we told them to put them on the table. .The appetizers were very good, as were the main courses, except for Lemon Butter Shrimp. .The shrimp were as hard as rocks. .They tasted as though they had been prepared long before we ordered them, and then re-cooked for us. .If you attempt to dine here, CAVEAT EMPTOR. . DINER BEWARE!!!. BEST OF LUCK!!

Pleasant dinner for us. Glad to be out any enjoyed the menu at the Back Burner. I had a tough time choosing my dinner, but the Lamb sirloin won . Nicely done, w good jus, not enough beans, a bit too many potatoes. The beet salad was delicious. My husband loved his shrimp pasta dinner. Wine list quite good. We only had a glass, not a bottle. We are going back for their crab cakes! The desserts looked good as they went by, but we were full.

Blackened salmon salad was very good, with black beans and lime crema. Fries here are usually great, but they came out barely warm and had to be sent back. I'm disappointed in the complementary flatbread. I used to look forward to it, but lately it is badly burned or tasteless with no seeds. It's free, but why bother!
