Chef Ian Vest’s passion for great food in a comfortable environment where we hope guests feel at home. Our menu changes frequently with the seasons and our team strives to impress at every opportunity.
We happily cater to allergies and dietary restrictions, including gluten-free and vegan, and are always willing to cook off the menu. For a full experience, we strongly urge guests participate in the chef's tasting menu, which is customized to each guest's preferences upon arrival.

The service was fantastic as always. I was saddened to see only chilean sea bass as the white fish on the menu. Would love for them to exchange with halibut! Other than that, the salad, soup of the day and main courses were delicious. I will keep checking the menu and return when there is a different white fish.
Food is good, menu is nice. Service was a little slow for that size restaurant. We had a nice waitress, but she seemed to be all over the restaurant. Tight space.

Cozy, home made feel. Interesting cocktail menu, dessert list which made it very hard to choose. Yummy Brussels sprout Caesar.

We've been to Back 40 Kitchen twice now and both times were amazing. The food is amazing, fresh and always a bit of a surprise. Full of flavor and portioned just right. The chocolate chip cookie in a skillet is the bests chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. So worth saving room for dessert! Service is excellent, the wait staff are the best! Only down side, it can get pretty loud in the dining room but I don't know how you'd avoid that. Overall, Back 40 Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants!
Our first time at Back 40 Kitchen even though we live in Greenwich. What a great discovery for lunch today. Loved the food and everything about it. Great burger and salad with carrot cake for dessert. Look forward to dining there again soon.

Great food, very slow service
Amongst best three restaurants I have been to, globally. At a fraction of the price. Outstanding and consistent. A gem.
Met friends at this restaurant in Greenwich, as it was a good meeting spot...we came from Jersey and they came from upper Ct. area...one and 1/2 hr. Drive for both couples, but...food was delicious! Service and hosts very nice and did not rush us, even with a lot of people waiting. Entrance through office space is a little strange, but restaurant itself, while noisy, was very nice. Expensive meal, but again, well done and a good time! Thanks!

We had a wonderful dinner at Back 40. The menu was inventive and diverse. The food was very well prepared and exceptionally fresh. The wine list, although perhaps a bit pricey, was excellent. Service was attentive and particularly helpful to a member of our party who has limited mobility. I highly recommend Back 40.
I really wanted to love this place and completely appreciate what they are trying to do here with locally sourced produce, but as others have mentioned, execution could do with a tiny bit of improvement to take it to the next level. Two of our party had the burgers, which were totally fine but yes, the buns were charred in places. Same with the bread that the veggie burger came in. The veggie burger overall could use a few tweaks to make it a better dish. The patty itself (white bean and herb) is fine, maybe needs a little more herbs and seasoning. Patty is interesting texturally as it was quite crunchy. However, this doesn't work with the crunchy topping (not sure what it was) and the toasted slices of sourdough style bread that it was housed within. It needs a wetter sauce/condiment (maybe a vegan aoli or smooth green goddess sauce) and the bread needs to be changed to a softer, brioche style bun. The sliced bread doesn't even work mechanically let alone the dryness, because it is impossible to eat a round burger within an oblong piece of bread successfully. Husband had the falafel bowl which was quite good, nice tahini sauce and falafel appeared fresh although the quinoa was plain and unseasoned/undressed which again would be a simple fix and make the dish 100% yummier. Overall, service was good, ambiance was nice/relaxed, and the coffee was good. Small tweaks and a bit more thought around the food and this place would be on my repeat list!

We tried their $75 tasting menu. Wonderful. Fresh ingredients and chef’s imagination at display. We enjoyed everything from the starters to our desserts. Highly recommend.

Superb! It was a birthday celebration for my husband. I had some food restrictions to be accommodated. We noted them in the Open Table reservation. Not only was our note acknowledged by phone call confirmation, but our sever acknowledged it (discretely) upon greeting us after being seated; then, the chef visited the table to confirm his preparation ideas were acceptable! Simply the BEST personalized service, ever. For starters we had the grilled romaine Caesar salad and heirloom / watermelon salad, so fresh and dressed perfectly. My husband had the lobster and pasta special which said was wonderful, and I had poached salmon that was wonderfully flavored, moist, and flaky. Highly recommend the carrot cake with coconut cream frosting for dessert. Lastly, both the cocktails and the by-the-glass wine offerings were plentiful in choice and excellent pairings for our meals. Excellent service, delicious food, just perfect! Please go, you’ll not regret it. We’ll certainly be returning.
It was a bit hard to find for us, but it was also part of the excitement once we did find it. It was bustling when we got there, but it was around lunch time; once we were getting ready to leave, the spot had quieted down. Everything is organic, so if that's your thing, you'll be very happy. The price matches the quality of the food. Small, homey and very charming. 10/10 would recommend.
The chef came out to speak with us regarding our limited diets to make sure we were happy and well taken care of—and everything was delicious!
The only thing I would say that it was extremely loud on a Friday night—we could barely hear each other. Not a good date place!!

The food was outstanding. The server was knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic and we took her suggestions and recommendations — we were not disappointed! It is expensive, but a treat in every sense.

Excellent as usual
Been over a year since I last ate at Back 40 Kitchen. The food remains top quality. Especially the pasta! Very comfortable space as well. A satisfying experience!
Everything is pretty amazing. We've yet to be anything less than wowed with the food. And the menu is actually really impressive considering they seat less than 50. We've had a number of menu items (our favorite thing is actually the cornbread bites they start you out with), but we most recently had The tasting menu, which is amazing. They customize it to your preferences, while still surprising you. And everything was fantastic. The service is excellent in that they will make sure you enjoy yourself. This doesn't mean mistakes can't happen, but they make sure they solve any issues and then some. The only drawback is it is fairly loud.
One of the best restaurants in the Fairfield County/Westchester area. While not the easiest place to find on your first visit, once you eat there you will keep returning. Every ingredient tastes like it was picked, caught or butchered that day (except for the 40 day dry aged steaks, of course). When they say farm to table, they mean it! That being said, their chef is a magician and can elevate the finest ingredients into dishes that will make a foodie go "WOW". His homemade pastas will have you wondering whether you are eating in your favorite spot in Tuscany. The staff is friendly and very knowledgable. If you haven't been, you are missing something!
Made the reservation on Open Table for my sons 22 birthday. We got there and it was closed. Very disappointed that I was able to make the reservation through Open Table and it was closed!
