Back 40 Kitchen is a small, hidden restaurant located in the heart of Greenwich, CT.
We serve an entirely organic menu including wines and spirits. Our cuisine showcases
Chef Ian Vest’s passion for great food in a comfortable environment where we hope guests feel at home. Our menu changes frequently with the seasons and our team strives to impress at every opportunity.

We happily cater to allergies and dietary restrictions, including gluten-free and vegan, and are always willing to cook off the menu. For a full experience, we strongly urge guests participate in the chef's tasting menu, which is customized to each guest's preferences upon arrival.

My wife and I have been here many times and always enjoy the inventive menu, excellent service and delicious cocktails. Tony makes a fantastic Manhattan. The little cornbread treat is a great intro to the experience. Try their seafood paella -- fresh seafood and unique in that rice is the smallest item on the plate and delicious on its own.

We love to go to Back 40 Kitchen. They are very welcoming, the food is extremely fresh and the menu has something for everyone. We enjoyed the halibut and venison. Both prepared perfectly!

This review covers two visits, Dec 18 & 27. This is our favorite restaurant when in the Greenwich area travelling for the holidays. We first ate here last year and returned the next week as well. This trip we had the paella on the first visit. Absolutely superb - saffron aroma and flavor were subtle and complimented the perfectly cooked seafood. And cooking seafood just right is an art! It was also Wine Wednesday so the 50% bottle under $80 offered a nice selection - and the bottle was corked so we could safely enjoy with the meal and still drive. Second visit we went with previous favorites - beet salad and a very pure tomato and fennel bisque with the fennel just adding a touch and not overpowering followed by duck breast and venison, both rare to medium rare as recommended and both spot on for our taste. For the first time we indulged in dessert - not specificallly on the menu but working well with our required medical diets - coffee ice cream using coconut milk. This was a fabulously different flavor and wonderful texture. All in all - we will return whenever travelling through Greenwich and always keep this on our list of favorites.

This was our first time here but it will not be our last! The ingredients taste so fresh and the chef is creative. Can't wait to return but they are closed on Mondays! Maybe tomorrow!

A Gem in Greenwich! We could not be happier with the dinner we had at Back 40 Kitchen! We opted for the Chef's tasting menu for our table. Yes pricey, but an amazing experience! We were able to request inclusion of one dish from the menu -- the lobster risotto -- and the rest was a true discovery. We loved the creativity in how the chef chose to approach every course. From appetizer to desert, we enjoyed every mouthful. The services was attentive and exactly the pace we were looking for. Definitely recommend for a special evening out.

The service was fantastic as always. I was saddened to see only chilean sea bass as the white fish on the menu. Would love for them to exchange with halibut! Other than that, the salad, soup of the day and main courses were delicious. I will keep checking the menu and return when there is a different white fish.

We've been to Back 40 Kitchen twice now and both times were amazing. The food is amazing, fresh and always a bit of a surprise. Full of flavor and portioned just right. The chocolate chip cookie in a skillet is the bests chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. So worth saving room for dessert! Service is excellent, the wait staff are the best! Only down side, it can get pretty loud in the dining room but I don't know how you'd avoid that. Overall, Back 40 Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants!

Our first time at Back 40 Kitchen even though we live in Greenwich. What a great discovery for lunch today. Loved the food and everything about it. Great burger and salad with carrot cake for dessert. Look forward to dining there again soon.
