Anna Maria Pasteria
Beginning at age seven, Anna fell in love with cooking, creating her first plate of Pasta e Fagioli, a simple peasant dish which is now an Italian specialty. Enamored with cuisine and hospitality, Maria followed the family tradition and put her heart into making the best and most heavenly Tiramisu.
After two decades, Anna and Maria continue to dedicate themselves to the finest home-made Italian cuisine and service. Each entree is prepared to order with only the finest and freshest ingredients.

Neighborhood gem. One salad served three. The lasagna is delicious and the portions are large. The ambiance is warm and friendly.
Had dinner before seeing a play at the Black Ensemble Theater. Good food followed by good entertainment.
We've been customers of Anna Maria's since they were on Broadway in the 90's. The food and service have always been outstanding.
When you see some of the same people who have been working there for more than 20 years, it really says something.
Wonderful food atmosphere and value. Will definitely go again with larger group.
This restaurant has wonderful food and excellent service. The ambience is very pleasant and the music is usuallyItalian and very pleasant for dining. There were 8 of us and we all got different dishes. Everyone loved their food. The chicken parmigiana was excellent and so was the shrimp and other seafoods. They do an excellent job with vegetables. The spinach and broccoli were outstanding and the caprese salad was great. We’ve been there several times and it’s always wonderful.
One of the best Italian restaurants in the city. If you want something that isn’t on the menu they will make it for you if they have the ingredients. Never had a bad meal there. If something isn’t perfect they will replace it.
Food was good, as usual, but service was poor. We had a reservation and they seated us on time, but then we sat at our table for 15 minutes before a waiter came over, after many pass-bys without even acknowledging our presence. Food came quickly after we ordered, but it was 20 minutes after we finished before we got the check, and then only because I asked the cashier. When she brought the check it had an error, and she had to go find the waiter to get a correct version. Note that we were attending the Black Ensemble Theater after dinner and got A discount on the check because of that. We also got a discount for paying cash.
We have eaten here a number of times before but never had such service problems.
It is always enjoyable. The service is attentive without being intrusive. The food is delicious and the cocktails are well balanced. We go quite often!
Love it here.
The room smells a bit
Food ok but high priced relative to the quality
Will be fine if you are local and can’t get in elsewhere
Chicken in chicken dish was rather sickly.
As usual the food and service was AWESOME. We went there for the play and had fabulous meal.
Friendly service, great welcome, good fish. Attractive room with chandeliers. Perfect pre-Theater dining spot. Try the tiramisu.
An authentic and delicious taste of Italy in Chicago. This neighborhood gem has it all - superb food, amazing service and great atmosphere. The staff and owners make you feel like a guest in their home. We celebrated a 90th bday, and Anna Maria’s made it special. We were welcomed by the owner, and the waiter and wait staff made the entire evening delightful. We had a mix of pasta, pizza, meat, appetizers and a profiterole dessert. They even custom made a pasta dish for one of the pickier eaters. Each dish was mouth watering, and delicious.
Always a favorite and a neighborhood gem! Great food and wonderful service.
My husband and I have been going to Anna Maria Pasteria for over 25 years. It is our favorite restaurant in Chicago. We are there at least twice a month. Food is great, they will make you whatever you want if they have the ingredients. Staff is wonderful..
I have eaten here twice, but my first experience was fantastic both nights were weekdays and I had a reservation but it wasn’t necessary. I’m surprised this restaurant is not busier as the food is very good. Both times I had the rigatoni with gorgonzola and asked them to add shrimp. The first time they added five enormous shrimp it was quite impressive. The second time they addedSeven smaller shrimp and it wasn’t quite as impressive but still good. The first time I shared the fish with my dining partner and it was delicious. Service was on point and again neither time was crowded at all.
Nice variety of meals to choose from. Good service. Small but not cramped seating.
Good place for pre-theatre dinner.
I was happy that the food, waiter and atmosphere was great!!! After moving from the area in a long time.
Very personable service, excellent food, varied menu - all 6 of us loved it! It is the perfect place to go before attending a show at The Black Ensemble Theatre, but I would also go just for dinner.
Loyal customers for 25 years and always love the staff, service, and of course the great food. Perfect Mother’s Day dinner!
A great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Consistently great food, god wines, reasonable prices. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Great food- value and in the hood. Try it! Parking everywhere
This is our favorite restaurant in Chicago. It’s our go to place. We are probably there twice a month. They will do whatever it takes to make your visit wonderful
Our family go to place for delicious food!
Halibut was over cooked. Didn’t flake like fish should. I had to cut it with a knife. Waiter took it back, and I ordered something else. Would never go here again.
The server was friendly. Bussers were efficient. The calamari grotto were good. But the entrees were disappointing. The spaghetti and meatballs hardly had any sauce. And this was the dish recommended by our server.
And the salmon entree had little flavor. We were hoping to find a go-to neighborhood Italian restaurant. Our search will continue.
Dinner after show at Black Ensemble Theater, very nice!
Great food and very friendly service. Nice for a good traditional Italian dinner starting off with great warm bread. Lovely evening out and a great break to the middle of the week.
It’s also perfect for dinner before of after going to Black Ensemble Theater. Bonus is Montrose Ave near there is free parking
Excellent food and service ce as always. A little noisy, due to one table!
Rarely do seven folks agree so stronglly unanimously and without reservation, but in this case we did. Everyone had a grand time! The food, the wait staff, the ambiance, just everything, was grand. We came after attending a most soul stirring and upbeat musical at the Black Ensemble Theater, and the uplift and joy was carried over to dining our experience, and lasted throughout! We shall return!
Just so/so. i had salmon in my pasta dish. Very fishy. Didn't eat it. had higher hopes.
Always a favorite - excellent pastas, chicken vesuvio and the best tiramisu on the planet.
I love Anna Maria’s. It’s got great
food and wonderful service. It’s a little gem in the neighborhood. 👍
This is my favorite restaurant. My husband and I go there at least once a month for the last 30 years. It’s far and away the best Italian food in the city if not the country. If what you want isn’t on the menu just and they will make it if they can...
My go to favorite never lets me down.
Anna Maria Pasteria is a very nice restaurant with a good menu and decent wine selection. Specials are really worthwhile. Service is quite good, but the noise level is not low.
A great neighborhood spot. Traditional Italian, friendly, consistent.
