Alston Bar & Beef
Alston Bar & Beef, named after the long forgotten main street of Grahamston village, is located underneath the Gordon Street entrance of Glasgow Central Station. Follow the stairs down to Alston’s underground arches to a bar with Glasgow’s widest range of gin, each uniquely garnished & served to perfection.
Glaswegians are spoilt for choice when it comes to great places to eat & Alston aims to raise the bar for meat lovers even further by serving the best steak the city has to offer. Choose from a selection of 35 day dry-aged steaks, including the Chateaubriand to share or Glasgow’s favourite, the fillet. All our Scotch beef is carefully chosen from accredited farms each renowned for producing quality beef, full of flavour & tenderness.
Very popular, definitely need to book a table if you want to eat. Great choice of steaks on the menu, which were cooked to perfection. Waitress was happy to customise choice to our requirements.
The staff were so lovely! It was quite busy when my boyfriend and I went but they were very attentive
Good value for money, food excellent and good atmosphere.
I love Alston.
Always amazing service and fab food!
Thank you guys.
Delicious as always. Always love a trip to alston.
Beautiful dinner on Friday evening. Atmosphere was amazing - busy but not enough that we couldn’t hear each other. Food was terrific and service was brilliant - we felt like nothing was an issue. Would highly recommend and will be back ourselves. Thanks Alston!
Good value lunch menu. Great steaks cooked perfectly. Decent wine list with a range of prices to suit most budgets. Quite atmospheric descending underneath Central Station. Service friendly and polite but not over attentive. A little quiet on a Thursday lunchtime. Great cocktail list and they know how to mix a mean Vodka Martini.
Classy ambience, very nice bar with well made cocktails. The food was very good, steak had a lovely flavour but was a little too medium rather than medium rare. Chips and sauce were great and dessert was very nice, especially the cheesecake.
The service was very friendly but as the restaurant was busy, we had to ask for our water and wine a couple of times before they brought it. The prices were similar to a London steak place so slightly pricey for what you get. Overall though, we had a nice dinner in a lovely, and lively, restaurant.
It was busy when we were there so the noise level was pretty high. It quitened down as some diners left 👍
Was very pleased with the level of service and the food was delicious and really good portion sizes.
Food was deliciius. I had the sirloin steak cooked perfectly. Only 1 little complaint was we waited half an hour for a cocktail and we were finished our meal by time it came. But would definitely come back!
Sunday roast is so tasty, perfectly cooked and good value. Service great too
Fab night on Saturday at Alston bar and beef, celebrated my birthday with a lovely dinner. The waiter was fantastic and the food was amazing, will definitely be back!!
Had a great night at Alston bar and beef, food was excellent and the service was also great. It was a little bit expensive for the amount you were given but the food was worth it.
Amazing service and ambiance! The cocktails were lovely and our 3 course meal with steak was a good value.
Always go here when in glasgow city centre always same experience & quality of food. I live the decor & lighting only suggestion i would make is make sure steaks knife are sharpened often last twice ive struggled to cut through a medium steak but overall worth a visit & try
Fantastic Scotch Beef fillet steaks, very juicy and light. Potatoes and chips were some of the best I've tasted. Pakora was also really tasty and not overly spicy. However, the food was perhaps a little too salty. Interesting take on pear crumble, though it could have done with a little more custard. Cool surroundings for a meal with good beats.
Amazing as always. My favourite place to eat and have drinks in Glasgow.
Fantastic as always - great food, great service and a perfect evening.
Best steak ever!
Beautiful meal. Lovely atmosphere, visited for husbands birthday with another 4 friends. Centrally located, will definitely be back.
Excellent meal, great service, would most definitely visit again.
Food was delicious, steak perfectly cooked. Acoustics awful! Noise level was high and the ceiling shape means you can hear conversations of people on opposite side of the room louder than the person next to you!
Must have walked past this restaurant 100s of times and not noticed it as it’s right in Central Station. Defo worth visiting. Really good food, great service and a nice atmosphere
5 star Sunday roast. You have to have the beef! Very attentive and friendly service. Fantastic value.
Service was slow and meat was dry and overcooked. Def not a recommendation
Best steak I have ever had done to perfection the sauce ,chips and onion chips were amazing highly recommend.
Excellent standard of food and service at a great price
Great food, fantastic drinks and amazing staff!
Had a really nice dinner, steak was cooked perfectly
Excellent steak, reasonably priced. Good sides, attentive staff.
Wine was awful - they need to get better suppliers. Decor is the worst aspect. Entirely white with blue lighting is not a good feel for a steak restaurant. I understand that they may want to make a cellar look bigger by painting it white but there is a reason why most steak restaurants are warm, woody comfortable places - it goes with the food. Neon blue strip lighting doesn't. Pity - because the steaks are great.
Waitress very attentive service excellent food lovely presented will return
Food was slightly slow in coming out, saying that it was during their busiest time on a sat night. A word from the waiting staff would have been nice to apologise/ explain but it hasn’t put me off from coming back.
Food was really nice.
Steaks and accompaniments were good, long wait for dessert menu after we asked for it, while waiting for dessert menu we were asked to vacate our table , when dessert arrived it was frozen solid and inedible
Fabulous as always - never fails to disappoint.....best steak in Glasgow
Fantastic Steak restaurant. Lovely, unique setting below Central Station. Great food and attentive service.
Great menu, we had Cullen skink, rump steak and then brownie. The food was delicious, especially the brownie which was so light. Wine was also good value. Would definitely recommend.
I just love this little hidden gem of a restaurant- I am a regular user - best steak you will get anywhere!
Once again enjoyed the ambience and service in Alston but so impressed with the current set menu. For starters I had Cullen skink which was too thick and gloopy for my taste ; my friend fared better with the beetroot and feta tart which she described as delicious with the only downside being the pastry was too hard to cut. We both chose the chicken and leek pies which were good though more leek than chicken .
When our coffees arrived , there was no tablet as the restaurant had run out - I always think it’s poor to serve unaccompanied drinks . Despite all this we enjoyed our evening although the food was disappointing compared with the usual standard . Hope the friends I gave a gift voucher to at Christmas have a better experience.
It was a great meal and good value for money. Only problem I would say say is that the service was slow and we kept having to ask them for things more than once
