Lamb Rogan Josh
Cubes or boneless lamb cooked in tomatoes and onion sauce
Potatoes cooked with cumin, curry, garlic, garam masala, turmeric, mustard seed and chilli powder
Jumbo Shrimp marinated with cilantro, lemon juice & spices
Neighborhood gem. Little hole in the wall but the food was great. Full of flavor and a good amount of heat too. Little of the beaten path but well worth the walk.
Honestly food was solid (value was meh) but service was horrible. Would not recommend dining there but possibly takeout/delivery if costs we 20 - 30 percent lower.
Darbar is a gem and never disappoints. The food is first rate with many vegan options. The staff is friendly and attentive and the experience is always first rate. Great lunch buffet too.
I went here to celebrate my birthday with 8 friends, and we had a wonderful time! The upstairs was spacious, we could have full conversations and actually all hear each other, the food was delicious as always, and our servers were extremely kind. Thank you, Darbar!
Awesome service and venue ! The food was beyond our expectation !
Tres bon! Situé près de la 5e avenue et 46e rue, restaurant chouette proposant un bon choix de menu.
This is a pretty restaurant. Too bad the food was the worst Indian food I have ever eaten. Everything looked and tasted the same. It has almost turned me off to Indian food. I would not recommend it. Sorry.
Went on Sunday for lunch buffet. Naan was freshly made and fantastic everything else was not up to par.
Amazing service and food
I always visit Darbar when in NY. They must have changed chef as the main dishes were more spicy thgan before. I am not complaining as everything was delicious and up to expectations.
Authentic Indian food close to Grand Central Station and at very reasonable prices.
It was an unexpectedly found gem!! We booked this place last minute and were absolutely delighted with everything- the ambiance, the service, and of course the food!! We ordered cheese and tomato naan, chicken tikka masala, lamb chops and aloo Palak, every bite was delicious, I would recommend this place to anyone.
well, they told me my party hadn't arrived but they were waiting upstairs. then it was cold upstairs so we moved downstairs. our soups were good but I felt the chana shaag was smoky-burnt tasting. we liked the other entrees. we didn't like either dessert. the room is not particularly pleasant.
Terrible food. Probably the worst Indian food I've had. Ordered a chicken/potato dish. There were no vegetable in the dish. When inquired, waiter responded "its mixed into the sauce." Terrible lie as I've had this dish several places before. Lamb dish did NOT taste like lamb. Pretty sure it was beef. Pricey for what it is. Terrible experience.
Sit upstairs for a very quiet private experience. Order the crispy okra for an appetizer I had never tasted before. I comes in a nest of papadum & looks as wonderful as it tastes. All the dishes were excellent as were the pickles. The service is very attentive. Can't wait to go back, thank you.
The food(buffet) was cold and not tasteful at all.
This is a very lovely Indian restaurant with table cloths and a little bit of an upscale atmosphere. Food is very good too! Service was great.
the banquet is always fabulous and at lunch time- it is actually one of the fastest way to get lunch. They give you a great array of items to choose from for the price. perfect for 2 or more people
The food was delicious. The service could have been a little bit better. I would most likely go back again.
Absolutely my favorite Indian restaurant to go to when in NYC! It’s always my first stop of any trip here! The service and food are amazing and the staff always make me feel like a valued customer! It doesn’t look like much from the street but once you are inside you will see that this place is a true gem! Highly recommend!
Restaurant was cosy. Ordered okra crunch, lamb briyani and eggplant bharta. Food was delicious and wait time short.
Great food and service
I went with a friend and she loved it too
We will come back
Fast and pleasant service
Good value for money
My family has been coming here for years and every time I sit down to enjoy dinner, I am never disappointed. The food is flavorful and I am yet to find another Indian spot in NY/NJ that has put a smile on my face such as Darbar.
I would recommend this place to friends.
Honestly one of the best restaurant experiences ever. Super Friendly and attentive service. Most flavorful meal ever. The three of us enjoyed every one of our food choices which is rare. Fine for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Pricing Fixe menu offered tremendous choice and even substitutions! Incredible value for NYC.
I rarely write reviews but really want to help the Open Table community discover this gem of a restaurant. If you are near Grand Central this is a very quick walk.
Very slow service.
The food was delicious! Everything we had! The garlic naan, onion fritters, and chicken tikka masala. I would definitely recommend and go back! The waiters were very friendly and nice.
Food was tasty, could have been hotter and refilled buffet trays quicker. Service was pretty poor not attentive to patron. Overall I would return great value for your money!
It’s a nice place. I feel like customer service “at the door” could of been better. But regardless it’s nice and quiet. Drinks are really good and I’d highly recommend their garlic cheesy bread.
Fun place-lot of menu choices. Very tasty onion fritters, excellent okra. Everything was great.
Best cod fish brandade interpretation I ever had out of Portugal or Brazil, where they are a must as appetizers
Sea bass broiled to perfection in a delicate
I will sure be back
Went on Saturday night around 8 pm. and relatively quiet. Seated promptly and ordered drinks. We then placed orders for 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. Well, only 1 appetizer came as there seemed to be some confusion with this order. Rectified quickly. Both were good-Samosas and one of their specials. The entrees were delicious-Lamb Korma and Shrimp Bhuna. Nice, and simple presentation.
We tried to order the Indian ice cream-they were out and then went for Mango ice cream-also not available. they brought a complimentary mango mousse-nice touch but why don't they at least have one ice cream on a Saturday night?
Anyway, pleasant and easy meal. Again, Entrees were excellent.
First they didn't split the bill onto two credit cards when we asked. Then they double charged me. The hassle with the credit card company makes this place not worth going to.
The food is good. It took a long time to arrive. My naan was cold by the time it arrived with my main course.
Food was decently good - appreciated that rice wasn't extra! Ambiance could've been better, at around 7 it was dead quiet and no music was playing, and the waiters were hovering waiting for us to order. Would suggest having a physical happy hour menu as well as they stated they had one but it wasn't on the menu.
Darbar used to be better. All dishes were way too spicy even though we specified « mild ».
wow.. the service was better than the food. Please don't get me wrong the food was incredible but they took care us from the moment we walk thru the door. The waiters gave us excellent food recommendations. Their suggestions hit that food spot. Great service and amazing food. We will be back. Highly recommended !!!!
Yummy Indian appetizers and main courses and bread.
Nice Indian restaurant. Food was too spicy (was supposed to be "medium") for us.
Went on Valentine's Day. At first glance when I walked in I thought the place wasn't going to be as nice as it seemed on the website but it was just fine. The food and service was great. I am guessing, the manager, came over and gave me a rose to give my lady friend, which I thought was really, really nice. He also had a great sense of humor. I would definitely go back.
